Sustainable City Commetee
SUSTAINABLE CITY COMMITTEE

Sustainable City Committee (SCC) includes authoritative politicians, businessmen and scientists, who are concerned by the future of the city and are eager to influence the decisions, linked with the city development planning to make it environmentally sustainable.

Environmental sustainability means conservation of natural capital and consideration of environmental consequences of economical development, conservation of biodiversity, human's health, and also water, air and soil quality at a level, which will be enough to support the life and welfare of a human being, as well as plants and animals now and in the future.

SCC is a consultative body, which helps local authorities to move in the direction of sustainable development.

Taking into consideration, that a city is, on the one hand, a biggest territorial unit, the population of which, suffers from architectural, social, economical, political, environmental disbalance, which have negative impact on the modern world, but on the other hand, the city level - is the lowest level, at which constructive, integral, scholastic solution to these problems can be found, SCC has the following tasks:

  1. To foster the development of international cooperation of Donetsk and its movement towards European integration, conduce the strengthening of international authority and formation of sustainable city.
  2. To help attracting additional investment, aimed at the sustainable development of the city, nature conservation.
  3. To involve the city in the European Sustainable Cities Campaign, signing of Aalborgh Charter.European Sustainable Cities Campaign
  4. To assist with the development of political strategies and actions, which lead to positive environmental results, moving towards sustainable development.
  5. To seek social justice, sustainable economy and environmental sustainability.
  6. To gain natural capital.
  7. To assist with raising of effective natural resources usage.
  8. To assist with practical implementation of Aarhus Convention statements on access to environmental information and public involvement into the decision-making process.
  9. To bring along dissemination of information on sustainable development and international experience.
  10. To present the interests of the city at international forums, devoted to city sustainable development.
  11. To support environmental projects, aimed at city environment improvement, which assist with natural capital conservation and sustainable development.
  12. To lobby the ideas of sustainable developments in the City Council.
  13. To join the efforts of local authorities, business and public to ensure sustainable development of the city.
