Donetsk, has become the 7th city of Ukraine, which joined European Sustainable Cities and Towns Campaigns. Odessa, Nikolaev, Mirgorod, Sumy, Nikopol and Sevastopol did this before us.

What does participation in this Campaign mean to us? It means that population welfare growth (if it is ever coming) should be achieved at the cost of new resource saving technologies, but not at the cost of extensive resource usage. This is exactly the idea of the Aaborgh Charter, which was signed by Vladimir Rybak, the mayor of Donetsk....

With New Approaches into the New Millenium

Donetsk is entering the new Millenium as a full-fledged member of European Sustainable Cities and Towns Campaign. The Mayor of Donetsk, Vladimir Rybak, signed the Aalborgh Charter on the 20th of October, announcing by this the wish of Donetsk to follow the idea of sustainable development - economic humanity development within the Earth's carrying capacity.
